South East Positioned for Major Economic Boost from Offshore Renewable Energy
The South East of Ireland stands to secure a transformative economic uplift from offshore renewable energy development, according to a new report from the South East Energy Agency launched to a full house at the Port of Waterford on Monday, March 9th, 2026.
TThis week, Port of Waterford was proud to host the launch of the Offshore Wind Report by the South East Energy Agency and the Ireland South East Offshore Wind Partnership, together with the four local authorities of Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford and Wexford.
The event brought together regional leaders, industry voices and development agencies to explore the economic, business and community opportunities offshore renewable energy can create for Ireland’s South East.
The morning was MC’d by Brian FitzGerald, with contributions from David Sinnott, Lar Power, Moira Walsh and Jim Power, followed by a panel discussion featuring Dr David Dempsey, Dr Frances Hardiman, Dr. Matt Kennedy and Georgina Foley.
A strong message came through clearly:
The South East is not starting from zero. The region is building real momentum, with the infrastructure, skills, ambition and collaboration needed to support offshore renewable energy.
Port of Waterford CEO, David Sinnott noted, “… this is more than a policy ambition. It is a regional opportunity, a national imperative and a generational responsibility.”
Thank you to everyone involved in bringing the report and the event together.
