Sponsorship of Sail Training Ireland voyages supporting growth opportunities for young people in the South East
Port of Waterford is proud to announce its collaboration and sponsorship of two Sail Training Ireland Bursary Voyages. The impressive tall ship ‘Brian Boru’ will host the lucky participants as they embark on two unforgettable journeys, one around the picturesque backdrop of the Waterford Estuary and the second navigating the exciting voyage from Dublin to Waterford Port.
David Sinnott, CEO of the Port of Waterford, expressed his enthusiasm about the event, stating,

The Port of Waterford is deeply committed to fostering community growth and engagement, highlighting our region as a dynamic hub for maritime activities and promoting sustainable practices. Our goal is to empower participants by equipping them with the skills and confidence to navigate new challenges, immersing themselves in the beauty of the sea and gaining invaluable life skills along the way.”
The bursary voyage encourages participants to step out of their comfort zone embracing new challenges to work as part of a diverse crew developing essential life skills like teamwork, communication, and problem- solving. This empowering experience also allows participants the opportunity to learn about the Waterford Estuary gaining an understanding of its maritime heritage, its significance in the region and the importance of preserving its bio-diversity and cultural legacy.

Sail Training Ireland is renowned for its unique approach to youth development, utilising the power of sailing to inspire confidence, resilience, and leadership skills. The bursary voyages, made possible by the generous support of the Port of Waterford and Waterford City & County Council offer young participants an opportunity to embark on an adventure of a lifetime.
The first voyage for 18-30 year olds takes place on 24th July – 27th July beginning in Dublin and finishing in Waterford.
The second voyage for 14-17 yrs. begins and ends in Waterford estuary on the 31st July – 4th August.
Both crews will enjoy a reception and award ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour on the 4th August to celebrate the spirit of adventure, personal growth and community enrichment.
